Conference Focus

IMI's 25th Annual Thermal Printing Conference will, as always, provide comprehensive coverage of the thermal printing industry's status and trends. Key worldwide thermal market sectors will be reviewed from supplier, channel sales and end-user perspectives. Advances in wireless communications, hand held devices and cloud hosted software that represent driving market forces in distributed printing will be presented in the context of their likely impact on thermal printing markets. Innovation and compliance initiatives that represent new growth drivers for direct thermal and thermal transfer usage will be presented from an application perspective along with the latest events and advances in photographic quality printing and thermal printhead/media technology. New product and technology innovations that include competitive technology based products aimed at traditional thermal markets will also be surveyed. Finally a review of thermal industry sales channel dynamics, worldwide capacities and the impact of the current competitive worldwide economic environment will cap off this comprehensive conference agenda.

For forty years, forecasters and "experts" have predicted the demise of thermal printing at the hands of ink jet and electrophotography - BUT today's $35 billion thermal printing industry is larger and more diversified than ever!

However, it is also in the midst of more volatility than ever. Current trends such as the hand held computing revolution, virtual receipts/documents, social media, smart phones, cloud computing, competitive technology advancements, etc. all combine to present both challenges and opportunities for the thermal printing industry.

Thermal printing continues to experience steady growth in all aspects of tag, ticket and label printing, as well as POS printing. It also enjoys continued growth in an ever expanding array of mobile workforce applications driven by hand held computing, and more recently by cloud computing. Specialization in thermal transfer printing has expanded its usage in industrial printing. Thermal printing's contributions to workflow automation and improvements to business efficiencies at all levels have resulted in specialized, thermal media and printing devices to fulfill application specific requirements for which it is often uniquely suited. The thermal printing industry is projected to grow to $42.5 billion (end-user revenues) by 2019.
